Big advance poll numbers for Sault Ste. Marie-Algoma

The newly-created riding of Sault Ste. Marie—Algoma had a lot of voter participation in the advance polls held earlier this month Nearly 20,000 people in the riding of Sault Ste. Marie—Algoma cast an advance ballot in the 2025 federal election. Elections Canada said in a news release Tuesday that the four days of advance polling between April 18-21 set a new record for turnout, with 7.3 million people casting ballots early. That's up 25 per cent from the 5.8 million people who took part in advance voting in the 2021 federal election. In Sault Ste. Marie—Algoma, the number of advance voters between April 18-21 was 19,899. It's not possible to compare the local numbers to the previous election because the former riding of Sault Ste. Marie was amalgamated with a portion of the former riding of Algoma—Manitoulin—Kapuskasing between the two contests. When Sault Ste. Marie—Algoma was created, Elections Canada recorded the population of the riding as 113,772. A total of 9,737 voters participated in advance polls in the former riding of Sault Ste.
