The demonstrators were pushed and spat at by a man in New Street, Birmingham city centre on Saturday afternoon, April 26. A full statement from West Midlands Police read: "We are investigating after three people were assaulted in Birmingham this weekend. "Enquiries are ongoing after three people were pushed and spat at by a man in New Street on Saturday. "Our officers are carrying out CCTV and witness enquiries in the area to identify a possible suspect and are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the assault.
