Follow the latest transfer news and more with our LFC newsletter Liverpool supporters have responded to Virgil van Dijk’s call for Anfield to be turned into a sea of red this afternoon. Arne Slot’s side are in action against Tottenham Hotspur knowing a draw would be sufficient to ensure they win the Premier League title and crown the Reds champions of England for a record-equalling 20th time. Fans were already descending upon Anfield four hours before the scheduled 4.30pm kick-off. Liverpool principal owner John Henry and his wife Linda Pizzutti also arrived at Anfield for what could be the first time the Reds seal the title in front of supporters at home in 35 years. And it has become clear supporters have taken note of Van Dijk’s fashion missive with the vast majority decked out in red, whether it be a replica jersey, a t-shirt, a scarf or a hat. Those travelling into the city on train have already started the celebrations early, with some fans spotted drinking small bottles of prosecco. The pubs around the stadium were packed long before the start of the game, with a huge crowd building on Anfield Road to welcome the Liverpool team bus when it arrives. Van Dijk said last week: “I would just encourage everyone that comes to Anfield for the remaining games of the season to wear red, come in red or come with all red, make it a red Anfield. “Because that would look incredible and make as much noise as you can, and then you will enjoy it even more than you already should do, in my opinion.”
